Mountains

I miss the mountains

The ones by my home

With their telephone poles and steep edges

I think about them often

The times we spent there

Driving in the dark

Looking at our cities lights

When we were younger

The moments etched in each different trail

Of secrets between friends and bonds between family

Of moments, defining and difficult

Of beginnings and ends

You’d feel so safe there

Among the wildflowers and the vastness

Easy to get lost

But impossible to forget

Although I’m much further now

And everything has changed

They remain consistent and stable, a reminder

I miss the mountains
